For every metric ton of biodiesel produced, roughly thrice the amount of solid Jatropha cake is produced as one of the main byproducts. Presence of toxins and anti-nutrients make it unfit for use as animal feed although it has high protein content, making its disposal a concern. Jatropha cake is a rich source of plant macro- and micronutrients and was found to effectively substitute for inorganic mineral fertilizers.
